Save this before you go to Bali, Lombok or Gili Trawangan.
One of the easiest ways to waste an evening in Indonesia is to open Google Maps at 7pm, stare at 200 restaurants and spend the next 40 minutes asking: “Where do you want to eat?”
So we've already done the sorting.
This is our running food list for Seminyak, Uluwatu, Kuta Lombok and Gili Trawangan — from breakfasts and casual lunches to sunset spots, proper dinners and places that can carry on into the night.
Start with these.
Where to eat on Gili T
Gili T is small enough to cycle around, but the food options are much broader than the island's size suggests.
We'd keep breakfast casual, save a few beachfront options for later and avoid eating in the exact same part of the island every night.
Kayu Cafe
Coffee, breakfast and an easy daytime option by the beach.
Pearl Beach Lounge
One to save when you want dinner beside the water.
Casa Vintage Beach
A west-side option to pair with sunset.
Coffee & Thyme
Useful to have saved for coffee, brunch or an easy daytime meal.
The Banyan Tree
A useful vegetarian and vegan option to keep on the list.
Cycle somewhere different for sunset.
Don't spend every evening around the busiest section near the harbour. Gili T makes much more sense when you use the whole island.

Where to eat in Kuta Lombok
Kuta Lombok isn't somewhere we'd arrive expecting to eat badly anymore.
The surf town now has a surprisingly broad mix of Mediterranean restaurants, pizza, cafés, grills and bars alongside Indonesian food.
El Bazar
Mediterranean sharing plates, seafood, wine and cocktails.
Kenza Cafe
One to save for a daytime stop around Kuta.
Mama Pizza
For the night when you simply want pizza.
Milk Lombok
Keep it saved for an easier breakfast or lunch.
Bara
One for drinks when sunset is part of the plan.

Where to eat in Uluwatu
Uluwatu has become one of the places we'd actually plan dinners in advance.
The area is spread out, traffic matters and the good restaurants aren't necessarily beside each other. Decide roughly where your afternoon ends before choosing dinner.
Mana
Clifftop views make this one worth timing around sunset.
Masonry
Wood-fired food and a stronger proper-dinner feel.
Single Fin
One of the obvious Uluwatu sunset names — obvious for a reason.
El Kabron
Save it when the setting is as important as the meal.
The Cave Bali
The special-occasion option rather than a casual walk-in dinner.
Book the view around the sunset — not after it.
If you're choosing a cliffside restaurant specifically for the setting, arriving once it's completely dark rather defeats the point.

Where to eat in Seminyak
If eating well is a major part of your Bali trip, Seminyak is the easiest section of this guide to overbook.
There are beachfront institutions, Indonesian restaurants, cafés, steakhouses, Italian food, late-night restaurants and places where dinner quietly turns into the rest of your evening.
Merah Putih
One we'd book when you want a proper Indonesian dinner.
La Lucciola
A long-running beachfront option for lunch or dinner.
Mama San
Asian food and cocktails when you want a livelier dinner.
Potato Head
One of the Bali names worth experiencing at least once.
Motel Mexicola
Useful when dinner isn't necessarily the end of the evening.
FULL SEMINYAK RESTAURANT LIST 35 places +
Don't make 12 restaurant reservations.
Book two dinners.
Reserve the places you'd genuinely be annoyed to miss.
Save five backups.
Keep alternatives near wherever you're staying.
Leave lunch alone.
Lunch is where we'd keep the trip spontaneous.
Check the distance.
A restaurant looking nearby on a Bali map does not mean it is nearby in Bali traffic.
The rule we'd actually follow
Don't travel across Bali for a restaurant you only sort of want to visit.
Build your food plans around the area you're already spending the day in.
Uluwatu sunset? Eat in Uluwatu. Seminyak afternoon? Stay for dinner. Cycling around Gili T? Pick somewhere on the side of the island you're finishing on.
Save the places you care about now and you'll spend much less of your holiday scrolling through reviews later.
Save the list.
Decide when you're hungry.
A quick note
