Three days in Alicante that do not feel rushed

Day one: whatever the flight leaves you

An afternoon landing gives you an evening, not a day. Drop the bags, eat something, and go down to the Explanada and the waterfront if you feel like it. That is the whole plan.

Do not book anything on the first night that you have to be somewhere for. Flights move, bags take a while, and the walk into town from the bus is longer than it looks on the map.

Day two, morning: the old town before it gets hot

Breakfast, then walk up through the old town towards Santa Cruz. It is pretty, it is stepped, and in summer it is brutal after eleven. Comfortable shoes, water, and go early.

From there, choose one: keep wandering the streets and stop for coffee, or go up to Santa Bárbara castle. Both is possible on paper and unpleasant in practice.

Day two, lunch and afternoon: one good meal, then the sea

Pick one restaurant you actually want to try, check the hours, and book it if it takes bookings. One decision made in advance saves the wandering-and-arguing hour that eats most afternoons.

After lunch, Postiguet beach. Swim, walk, or sit. If the weather is against you, swap it for a long coffee rather than adding another sight. The gap in the day is the point.

Day three: work backwards from the flight

Start at the departure time and work back. Airport transfer, bag drop, check out, and whatever margin keeps you calm.

Whatever is left is one thing, near your bags. Breakfast at the Mercado Central, a last walk along the water, or the castle only if the timing is genuinely comfortable.

The rule that makes three days work

Do not spend the same hour twice. Every plan that falls apart has the same fault: the walk, the queue, the coffee and the sit down are all happening in one hour that only exists once.

Write the day with the gaps in it, and Alicante in three days is a proper trip. Write it without them and it is a list you failed to complete.
